This position reports directly to the Founder and will be instrumental in leading software development for the AnthologyAI platform. As Lead Engineer, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional individuals to design core architecture and bring it to life with an agile, high-performance development team. You’ll play a hands-on role in shaping the future of our product, contributing to everything from architectural decisions to code quality. You will also oversee and coordinate work with third-party vendors and contractors to ensure successful delivery across all components of the platform.
- Own the technical integrity and scalability of software components across our mobile, application, and data platforms
- Lead estimation and planning efforts for upcoming work aligned with the company’s vision and strategic priorities
- Partner with leadership to design, develop, and maintain solutions that meet key business requirements
- Serve as a hands-on technical leader, actively contributing code and guiding the team through complex engineering challenges
- Document systems and solutions, including architecture diagrams, use cases, deployment plans, best practices, and support materials
- Debug existing systems, and drive continuous improvement in code quality and developer productivity
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating requirements into actionable engineering tasks
- Triage and resolve technical issues, providing leadership in diagnosing and solving complex problems
- Design and integrate with components in the AI ecosystem, including LLMs, vector databases (e.g., Pinecone), OpenAI APIs, and workflow automation tools (e.g., n8n)
What you bring:
Required:
- Proven ability to take ownership and help guide the technical direction of a product
- 7+ years of hands-on experience across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with the modern AI ecosystem, including LLMs, vector databases (e.g., Pinecone), AI memory management, workflow automation tools (e.g., n8n), and model integration using APIs (e.g., OpenAI)
- 4+ years of Java development experience (Spring Boot preferred)
- 5+ years of experience developing microservices using event-driven architecture and domain-driven design principles
- 3+ years of experience leading and mentoring successful development teams
- Experience with cloud services, preferably AWS
- Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, and prioritization abilities
Preferred
- Industry-recognized technology certifications
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience with the broader Spring framework ecosystem
- Demonstrated track record of building products from scratch
- Hands-on experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) best practices
- Experience working at a startup
Compensation & Location
- Salary range: $210,000–$250,000 base, commensurate with experience
- Includes competitive equity, top-tier healthcare coverage, and opportunities for professional development
- This position is remote only, with a strong preference for candidates based in New York City for occasional in-person meetings
